There has been an attempted hit in Boksburg on one of the law enforcement officers implicated in the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
The alleged hit on Wiandre Pretorius by three gunmen occurred in Boksburg on Thursday morning.
Pretorius, who survived the hit, was named by Witness D, Marius van der Merwe, during his testimony at the Madlanga Commission.
Marius van der Merwe, better known as Witness D, was assassinated last year outside his Brakpan home following a chilling testimony at the commission.
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mthombeni is on his way to the scene of the alleged attempted hit.
Madlanga Commission of Inquiry spokesperson Jeremy Michaels said that after the assassination of Van der Merwe, the commission met with relevant law enforcement agencies and took all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of both witnesses and commission staff.
“We are aware that Mr Pretorius has been in contact with other law enforcement agencies. I don’t want to get into the details of that. I can’t at this point. But of course, we are concerned for the lives of any people who may have information that is relevant to the commission,” Michaels said.
