Kaizer Chiefs announced seven new signings last week, including the addition of utility player Dillon Solomons, from Swallows FC.
It was then later revealed that Chiefs had actually beaten off fierce rivals Orlando Pirates to the signing of Solomons.
Besides Solomons, the club unveiled the likes of Kamohelo Mahlatsi, George Matlou, Siyethemba Sithebe, Zitha Kwinika, and Ashley du Preez.
The excitement and joyful spirit was soon threatened by the emergence of the news of a potential dispute over the legitimacy of one of those signings.
The player in question being Solomons, who’s signing was put under the microscope by the CEO of Royal AM Sinky Mnisi.
WHY SOLOMONS TURNED DOWN PIRATES FOR CHIEFS
“Look, respectfully we declined the offer from Orlando Pirates, It was a personal ambition Dillon had where he informed me that he grew up as a Chiefs supporter.
Because of this, he said in no uncertain terms that if there was a chance to clinch a move to Chiefs, he would love to go.
It was not a money decision, he was given a good deal at Chiefs. Pirates also came in for him, but at the end of the day, he told me to make the Chiefs deal happen.
Thanks to the Motaung family, they were pretty fair. Also to Pirates as well, the way they do business, was proper.
But they understand where we came from when I informed them Dillon had made a decision to sign for Chiefs.” said Nieuwenhuys to Kick Off.
It will be a big boost to Chiefs that a young player full of potential like Solomons has followed his heart and chosen to sign for his boyhood club, over their rivals.
The player will now be looking to break into the team and show his capabilities in the next season.
