‘Why Rele Mofokeng is losing focus’ – Ex-Pirates coach explains

Former Orlando Pirates head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has urged Relebohile Mofokeng to stay with the Sea Robbers this season.

The 20-year-old was linked with a move away from the club, but instead, it was his peer Mohau Nkota who left the Buccaneers to play in Saudi Arabia. Mofokeng caught the eye of many teams two seasons ago, but many felt he needed at least two seasons in the PSL to be ready to move.

The winger is entering his third season with Pirates, and it appears he might stay for one more season despite interest from Major League Soccer (MLS).

Micho feels Mofokeng’s performance at Orlando Pirates has been affected by Nkota’s departure.

“I really believe personally that both of them, Nkota and himself (Mofokeng) are youngsters and when a youngster like Mofokeng is hearing that his brother in age has jumped to the high-paid ranks, it will roll into his head and drop his focus and concentration,” the former Pirates coach told SoccerBeat.

“I personally, as a supporter speaking, I could say that I would like to see him with the new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou,”

Mofokeng has not scored for Pirates this season

Despite playing six matches across all competitions, Relebohile Mofokeng is yet to open his account this season. He has struggled in most matches, even when he was shifted to his preferred position on the left wing.

Against Orbit College on Tuesday, Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou did not select Mofokeng in his 18-man squad. It was reported that the winger suffered a minor injury against Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend.

Can Mofokeng recapture his form?
