Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori has explained why he’s not thinking about representing his country at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
According to Ofori, his focus on his Pirates as he wants to ensure that they attain their set objectives for the season.
In his case, he means keeping as many clean sheets as possible and making sure they lift the MTN8 Cup when they face off against AmaZulu in the final
In that way Ofori’s form and fitness condition will be excellent. That will leave the national team coach Otto Addo without a choice, but to select him for the final squad.
OFORI EXPLAINS
“The most important thing is Orlando Pirates because on a daily basis you work with your team,” Ofori told the media in Johannesburg.
“A National team [call up] is based on what you do with your club.
“Most of the time I don’t think about the national team because the most important thing if you not fit in your club or not doing well, national team is useless.
“I need to perform, do my best in the club side so that when they call you know you are ready.
“If you not performing at your club when you go there [at national team], mentally you are weak. World Cup stage is the biggest stage, all players’ dream is to play in the World Cup.
“At the moment I’m thinking about my club, how I would help my club to achieve and how I would help my club to be successful this season.
“My motive and ambition is to help my club, the national team will come after.”
Ofori who has fully recovered from an injury will be available for selection on Saturday.
