With pressure mounting on him due to a poor start to the season, Richards Bay FC head coach Kaitano Tembo has pointed out why he ‘isn’t worried’ about being fired.
The Natal Rich Boyz began the 2023/24 campaign with two losses and a draw. They lost 2-0 to SuperSport United and 2-1 to Golden Arrows and drew 0-0 with AmaZulu FC.
Moreover, bouncing back in their next match won’t be easy at all as they lock horns with rampant Mamelodi Sundowns. The Brazilians are the only side to have won all their DStv Premiership games of the new season.
Rulani Mokwena’s side has made it four out of four and will be looking for a fifth one when they take on the KZN side.
Tembo says he’s focused on bettering his side rather than the talk about his potential sacking and feels that getting fired is normal in coaching.
KAITANO TEMBO ON WHY HE’S NOT WORRIED ABOUT BEING SACKED
“Look, I can’t be worried about getting fired,” Tembo told the media after their match against AmaZulu.
“I am a coach and at the end of the day I’ll be fired anyway. So, I shouldn’t worry about that. What I should worry about is for me to give my all to the club to show my work, to show what I can do.
“I think that’s very important to me because in football you can be fired even when you’re on top of the log. So, it’s normal, it happens. For me, it’s not an issue, I just want to try and make a difference to the club.
“If they feel that I’m doing a good job, that’s important to me.”
Tembo felt his side showed some improvement in the last game against Usuthu on Saturday. He believes it’s just a matter of time before they turn the corner.
They welcome Sundowns on Wednesday, 23 August at King Zwelithini Stadium at 17:00.
