The winners of these encounters will progress to the playoff final, where a place at the World Cup – and in Group A – will be on the line.

What It Means for Bafana Bafana
Head coach Hugo Broos and his squad will be watching closely, with each potential opponent presenting a different challenge.
Based on the FIFA world rankings, North Macedonia (66th) would be the ‘easiest’ opponent out of the four nations for Bafana Bafana to face, while Denmark (21st) are the favourites to join South Africa in Group A.
The Czech Republic are ranked 43rd, while Ireland find themselves in the 59th position.
Final Showdown Awaits
The playoff winners will meet in the final on Tuesday, 31 March at 21:45 (SA time), in either Dublin or Prague, to secure the last available spot in Group A.
For Bafana Bafana, Thursday’s matches mark the beginning of the final piece of their World Cup puzzle falling into place as preparations continue for their opening fixture against Mexico on 11 June.
With qualification on the line and World Cup dreams at stake, Thursday night’s clashes promise high drama.
As a reminder, the top two sides in each of the 12 groups plus the eight best third-ranked sides will progress to the Round of 32 at FIFA World Cup 2026 which will feature 48 teams for the first time ever.
