Where are they now? A look at famous SA child stars

Growing up in the spotlight is never easy, but several South African child stars have managed to turn early fame into long-lasting careers.

While audiences first met them as children on television or talent competitions, many have continued to evolve, building successful careers in entertainment, media and beyond.

Here’s a look at where some of the country’s best-known former child stars are today.

Karabo Ntshweng reaches a new radio milestone

Many South Africans remember Karabo Ntshweng as the confident young presenter who lit up YoTV. She first appeared on screens at just 11 years old and has since spent more than two decades working in radio and television.

Her career reached another milestone in 2026 when she took over the weekday 9am to 12pm slot on 5FM with 5 Mid Mornings with Karabo, moving from evening radio to one of the station’s daytime shows.

Away from radio, Karabo hosts a lifestyle programme on DStv, works as a voice artist and MC, freelances in digital strategy, and continues to advocate for mental health, women’s empowerment, and education.

DJ Arch Jnr is still making music

DJ Arch Jnr, whose real name is Oratilwe AJ Hlongwane, made headlines around the world after winning SA’s Got Talent in 2015 at just three years old.

The youngster’s victory launched an international career, with performances across Africa, Europe and Asia.

Now a teenager, who received a Guinness World Records title as the youngest club DJ as a toddler, continues to perform professionally, release music, and collaborate with brands while also focusing on his education. He remains one of South Africa’s most recognisable young entertainers.

Siv Ngesi continues to expand his career

Before becoming one of the country’s best-known entertainers, Siv Ngesi started acting professionally as a child in theatre and television.

Over the years, he has established himself as an award-winning actor, comedian, television presenter and producer.

He continues appearing in stage productions, television shows and films while using his platform to speak about LGBTQIA+ rights, mental health awareness, period poverty, and broader social justice issues.

Rorisang Thandekiso grows beyond children’s television

Rorisang Thandekiso, a former BONA cover star, became a familiar face to many South Africans during her YoTV days.

She has since successfully transitioned into mainstream entertainment, building a career as a television presenter, actress, radio host and MC.

Alongside her broadcasting work, she has also embraced entrepreneurship and content creation, remaining active across television, live events and digital media.

Botlhale Boikanyo still inspires through poetry

Botlhale Boikanyo captured the country’s attention when she won SA’s Got Talent in 2012 at the age of 11 with her spoken-word poetry.

Since then, she has developed a career as an acclaimed poet, author, motivational speaker and performer.

Her work has taken her to audiences both locally and internationally, and she continues encouraging young people through poetry while promoting literacy, education and youth empowerment.

South Africa has produced many child stars over the years, but these five have shown that early success doesn’t have to be short-lived. By adapting, developing new skills and staying connected to their passions, they have continued to make their mark long after their childhood fame.
