What the future holds for Sundowns loanee

Nicholus Lukhubeni is one of Mamelodi Sundowns loanees who have to find out what their future holds ahead of the new season. Here’s the latest on the right-back.

The 27-year-old spent the previous season with Swallows on a season-long loan. He played regularly for the Dube Birds under three coaches who led the side in the past campaign.

The Sundowns Academy product featured in 25 games in the DStv Premiership.

The last time he spent a season with the Chloorkop side was in the 2019/20 season before his first loan spell with Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila.

Before he was sent out to Swallows, Lukhubeni had loan stints with Sekhukhune United and Maritzburg United. And now, FARPost understands the Brazilians aren’t planning to recall the Kraaipaan-born.

Meanwhile, Swallows chairman David Mogashoa says they are willing to retain the services of Lukhubeni if Sundowns are open to loaning him out again. However, he insisted the future of the player depends on the parent club.

Mogashoa also added that if the defender is up for grabs, it would be Musa Nyatama’s call to make.

MOGASHOA – ‘WE’RE OPEN FOR DISCUSSION’ 

“The deal depends on Sundowns, we’re open for discussion,” Mogashoa told FARPost.

“If they’re willing to let him come to Swallows for another season. We will definitely sit down with the coach and see if he fits in his plans.

“Remember here it’s not about me, it’s about the coach. So he has to fit in the coach’s plans for next season.

“But having played for Swallows this season. I believe they wouldn’t be any issues. 

“If coach Musa wants to continue with him in the following season, I don’t see any reason we can’t keep him.”
