What Sundowns coaches told Divine Lunga before loan exit

Zimbabwe international Divine Lunga has revealed what Mamelodi Sundowns coaches told him before loaning him out to Golden Arrows.

The 27-year-old left-back was one of the top players for Abafana Bes’thende when they finished in the top four under coach Mandla Ncikazi.

It was clear that he wouldn’t stay longer in Durban with Sundowns coming knocking and getting him before the beginning of last season.

Lunga struggled with game time at Sundowns, only making seven appearances, mostly coming from the bench, which led to him getting loaned out.

Speaking after Arrows’ victory over Chippa United over the weekend, Lunga said he is just a player and can’t control coaches’ decisions.

“Those things they come up with coaches, I’m just a player, and I need to focus on that. “They told me I still have a future with them, but I focus on doing well for myself and improving as a player. The rest will follow,” Lunga explained.

“The coaches know better than me on what happened at Chloorkop. They didn’t tell me anything. I saw by myself that I must fight like a man, compete because I want to play football, so that’s what I’m capable of doing.”

Returning to the club he made his name from, Lunga says he is happy, and performance-wise, nothing has changed despite his struggles at Sundowns.

Interestingly, Arrows face Sundowns in the next league game, and the defender says he will celebrate if the Durban side wins.

“I feel great; my performances haven’t changed. When I came back here, I knew what to do. They might be seen as a small team capable of fighting against any team, so I’m here to fight, not to relax.”

“I will celebrate if we win against Downs; I’m here now, we won’t relax, and the boys can fight. We lose, draw and win together.”

Abafana Besithende will travel to Pretoria in high confidence as they recorded their second victory. They seem to have found their mojo back after a plodding start of the season.
