Mamelodi Sundowns legend Hlompho Kekana has revealed what he admires the most about Orlando Pirates teenage sensation Relebohile Mofokeng.
Mofokeng was promoted to the Buccaneers’ first team in April this year following his stellar displays in the DStv Diski Challenge [DDC].
The youngster has been the talk of the town since he made his debut for the Sea Robbers in a DStv Premiership clash against Royal AM on 03 May 2023. This came after he featured on the bench four times, before his debut.
Since then, the 18-year-old winger never looked back. So far, Mofokeng has played in six games across all competitions for Pirates this campaign.
WHAT HLOMPHO KEKANA ADMIRES ABOUT RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG
In an interview with FARPost, the former Sundowns captain, Kekana, has underlined what he envies most about the Pirates starlet.
“I think we can easily say that he is talented. So, as a talented player, I admire his braveness in approaching this game particularly when you are playing for a team like Orlando Pirates with so many demands and expectations,” he said.
“I love the way he is so composed in situations and the fact that he is expressing himself.
“I would like to see him continue to enjoy this moment as a teenager. You know, football gets serious with age and reputation.”
The ex-Bafana Bafana international continued: “And the good performances that you continue to give us, we will get used to that as football people.
“As a result, we will never accept anything less than what you are giving us.
“So, I believe he should really use this period to enjoy his football. At same time, express himself the best way he knows how.”
HLOMPHO KEKANA’S ADVICE TO RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG
The retired footballer went on to share some words of wisdom with the teenager, as he [Kekana] was once a youngster back then.
“The sooner or later he will be carrying responsibilities of making sure that the team wins. They will be relying on him to make sure he decides matches for them,” explained Kekana.
“My advice for him now is to use this opportunity he is getting while he is still a teenager to his full potential exploring so many things, as he is still young, because soon or later he will be a player who is expected to do more.”
