Newly appointed Bantu coach Moeketsi Mongoya has revealed what convinced him to accept the Bantu job in Lesotho.
The former Sekhukhune United assistant coach has started his journey in neighbouring Lesotho, where he is preparing Bantu for the 2022/23 season.
He has guided the former champions in several friendly matches as he gauges their readiness for the coming season.
However, Mongoya says it was only after meeting the club’s bosses that he agreed to take up the challenge.
“For me, it was a different one. I did not plan it, so I prayed about it before deciding. It was something that I wanted to see. Does it help you to grow as an individual? Does it challenge you? Because we know the challenges we meet in PSL, we already know the environment.” He said.
“When I was recommended, and I got a call from the management, I was not open in the beginning, I just went, and after doing my research looking at the challenge, I said this is one I can take.
“I had to pray about it and get the blessings from God, and I decided to come. I like to challenge myself as an individual with the type of players, can I contribute to them, and can they challenge me to go to another level?” he told FARPost.
He believes the job will test his mettle to improve the club’s players.
Mongoya will sit in the dugout for his first official league game on September 17 against Lifofane in Butha-Buthe.
He has been tasked with winning the league and getting the club back into the CAF Champions League.
While he is intrigued by the fans’ support, he is concerned about the lack of infrastructure.
“I was disappointed when I looked at the other stuff: few teams have their buses. Not many teams own their stadiums. I think that is the direction they’ve got to take and be recognised around Africa.” he said.
