1968 | The government announced that the University of South Africa will not be affiliated with the five “non-White” South African University Colleges.

2009 | Jiverly Antares Wong shot thirteen people at the American Civic Association immigration centre in Binghamton, New York, before shooting himself.

1996 | Ron Brown, the secretary of commerce, was among 35 people killed when an American Air Force Boeing T-43 crashed close to Dubrovnik Airport in Croatia.

1974 | The second-largest tornado outbreak in documented history, the 1974 Super Outbreak, took place. (after the 2011 Super Outbreak). There have been 315 fatalities and close to 5 500 injuries.

2008 | The largest charter airline in the United States and one of the top ten largest passenger airlines filed for bankruptcy for the second time in five years and ceased all activities.
