WEATHER: Severe thunderstorms expected

Severe weather alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

A yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms is expected along the escarpment and in the Lowveld of both Mpumalanga and Limpopo.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the central and northern parts of the Limpopo province.

ADVISORIES:

Hot and humid weather will lead to extremely uncomfortable conditions in the Lowveld and northern parts of Limpopo

Conditions and UVB forecast

Gauteng

Temperature: Partly cloudy in the early morning, otherwise fine and warm but hot in the extreme north.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Mpumalanga

Temperature: Fine and windy on the Highveld, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated thundershowers from the afternoon along the escarpment and in the Lowveld, where it will become cloudy in the evening. It will be hot to very hot in the Lowveld.

Limpopo

Temperature: Fine in the south-west, otherwise partly cloudy and hot to very hot with isolated thundershowers from the afternoon except in the south-west. It will be extremely hot in the Limpopo Valley.

North West

Temperature: Partly cloudy in the east at first, otherwise fine and warm to hot.

Free State

Temperature: Morning fog patches in the east where it will be cloudy at first, otherwise fine and cool to warm.

Northern Cape

Temperature: Partly cloudy over the Namakwa District in the morning, otherwise fine and cool to warm.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly, becoming strong by the afternoon.

Western Cape

Temperature: Partly cloudy and cool in the morning with rain and isolated showers in the south becoming fine in the north and west from late morning.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh westerly to south-westerly along the south coast until mid-afternoon, otherwise moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly becoming strong at times in the afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Very High.

Eastern Cape

The Western half: Partly cloudy and cool with isolated showers south of the escarpment, becoming cloudy with scattered showers and rain along the coast and adjacent interior.

The Western half – The wind along the coast will be Strong south-westerly, becoming fresh south-easterly.

The Eastern half: Partly cloudy and cool, becoming cloudy with isolated showers and rain in places south of escarpment, but scattered along the coast to the south of Coffee Bay.

The Eastern half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south westerly, becoming strong in the afternoon.

KwaZulu-Natal

Temperature: Morning fog patches over the interior and western parts where it will be partly cloudy, otherwise cloudy and cool, but warm in the north. Isolated showers and rain are expected except in the north-west.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to southerly.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: High.
