Baroka FC coach Vincent Kobola has opened up about the club’s new signing Sekgobela ‘Messi’ Masilo whom they scouted at the inaugural FARPost Cup in June.

The 20-year-old was on top of his game on the day and was rewarded with a Player of the Tournament award for his dazzling performance.

His consistency and standout performances attracted interest from PSL teams like Mamelodi Sundowns, Marumo Gallants and Black Leopards, who had scouts in attendance as well. However, Bakgakga had the last laugh beating other interested teams to his signature.

Kobola showered the speedy winger with praises as he is settling well at his new home and is promising to turn out as a good player.

“He’s gelling well, obviously. You could see he is still raw, we needed to show him certain things. Most of the time, I play him as a left wing-back or left-back so that he can know how to track back and mark,” Kobola told FARPost.

“He wants to stay on the line and get the ball. I want to teach him some things so that he can feel how it is. When he loses the ball, he should be able to win it back.”

Kobola further revealed that Masilo is in his plans ahead of the new season. The player won’t be playing with the reserve side.

“He’s in the first team, he’s still young. We’ll groom him well with good coaching. So far, he’s been great at training. When we do certain things, he puts in extra effort. We really like the boy. We call him “Messi”, he’s confident. I just have to guide him well and show him the way,” he concluded.

Baroka further bolstered their squad ahead of the new season by signing Luciano van Heerden and Ayanda Shabalala

The Limpopo outfit kick starts their 2022-23 Motsepe League Foundation at home against Uthongathi on Sunday, 4 September.
