A 35-year-old man was arrested on Saturday night in Ruyterwacht, Cape Flats, after police found drugs worth an estimated R5 million.
Sergeant Wesley Twigg said the arrest happened during Operation Lockdown III. Police were on crime prevention duties in Zoetenal Street when they noticed a man standing next to a white car. He appeared nervous when he saw the police vehicles.
Twigg said officers acted quickly and searched the man, finding drugs on him. They then searched the house where he was standing and found even more drugs inside.
“They found 87,058 mandrax tablets, a large bag of unknown white tablets, two big pieces of rock cocaine, and five large sachets of crystal meth,” said Twigg.
The total street value of the drugs is estimated at R5 million. The suspect will appear in the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court once charged.
