  • Footage of a woman being forcibly shoved out of the Tyger Valley Home Affairs office has sparked widespread public condemnation over the use of physical force.
  • While the woman claimed to have a valid appointment, the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) maintains she was a victim of an illegal third-party booking scam.
  • The DHA has removed the security guard involved and launched a counter-corruption investigation into the fraudulent sale of appointment slots.

A video capturing a woman being forcibly ejected from a Department of Home Affairs (DHA) office in Cape Town has ignited a firestorm of public anger.

The footage, filmed at the Tyger Valley Centre branch, shows the woman being manhandled toward the exit by security personnel following a heated dispute over her appointment status.

The confrontation reportedly began when officials refused to verify the woman’s reference number because her name did not appear on their internal documents.

Despite her insistence that she had a valid booking, the situation escalated rapidly, culminating in her being physically shoved out of the building. Social media users have slammed the “heavy-handed” tactics, questioning why an administrative discrepancy resulted in physical force.

The DHA has since expressed “sincere regret” for the distressing incident, confirming that the security guard involved has been immediately removed. However, their records indicate the woman was the victim of a scam; she had allegedly been misled into purchasing a booking from a third party.

The department reiterated that all official appointments are free and that their Counter-Corruption Unit is now investigating the illegal sale of slots.
