Watch Spar Employee Arrested After Attempt To Steal Baby From Mother’s Trolley

A young mother recently shared a shocking video of what happened to her and her baby on Sunday in Alberton’s Meyersdal SUPERSPAR.

The mother used social media to warn other mothers about how quickly something like this could occur. In the video, the young mother is seen holding her baby in her arms and attempting to free her hands while putting her eight-month-old in the trolley at the meat section.

While the mother was bending down, a man who appeared to be a supermarket employee approached the trolley, picked up the baby,

and walked away with it. And this happened just seconds after the mother bent down.

Fortunately, the mother looked up and realized her baby had disappeared. She is seen looking around frantically before seeing the man walk away with her baby. Speaking on the ordeal the mother said:

“I have her in my arms, and when I get to the meat section, I place her in the trolley to free up my hands. I find what I’m looking for and bend down.

“Within an instant, a stranger is seen in the video taking my daughter. I look up, and she’s gone. I immediately look for her and find her in the arms of this man.

“I’m able to grab her from him and say, what is he doing with my daughter? Why does he have her?

“He is smiling and laughing, telling me he walked past the trolley and my daughter’s arms were up, so he picked her up. I am frozen and confused. Why is he laughing? Behind me is another staff member – also laughing. I keep saying this is not funny. You don’t touch a child, you don’t take a child. This isn’t a joke, and I don’t find it amusing.”

She remembers being perplexed by the incident and unsure of what to do next. “I am unsure what to do next. The man again approached me to “demonstrate” what my daughter was doing and that she wanted to go with him. I am so angry, shocked, and hysterical! I’m shouting, where were you taking her? What were you going to do with her?

” I’m overcome with emotion and finally abort the trolley to report this to management. I explained to the manager that a staff member had taken my daughter out of the trolley, and he advised me that no one should touch my child.”

According to the Meyersdal Spar, the store has already provided the police with the CCTV footage, and management is fully cooperating with the authorities in their investigation.

“While we are extremely relieved that a reported case of attempted baby snatching at the independently owned Meyersdal SUPERSPAR was foiled on Sunday, we confirm the store’s owner along with store management took the decision to immediately suspend one staff member as a result of the incident and will take further action based on the results of an ongoing investigation.

“We can also confirm that the police recently arrested the staff member in question. The SPAR Group is also reaching out to the family to offer any support they need, including counselling.”

Furthermore, the store stated that it is unclear how many people were involved. “SPAR adopts a zero-tolerance approach to crime and will ensure the strongest possible consequences following attempts to commit crimes in our stores.

“The SPAR Group remains vigilant and proactive in efforts to catch perpetrators, bring them to book, and ensure the safety and well-being of customers.”
