Seputla Sebogodi is being remembered by friends, colleagues and loved ones after his death on 16 July.
The memorial service is held at the State Theatre in Pretoria.
His family announced his passing in a statement, saying: The immediate family of Seputla Sebogodi confirms, with profound sadness, his passing on the evening of 15 July 2026 following complications related to diabetes.
The family kindly requests privacy as they mourn this immense loss and navigate this difficult time together.
Seputla Sebogodi leaves behind an extraordinary legacy in South African theater and television. He will be remembered for his memorable performances in Generations, Suburban Bliss, Bophelo ke Semphego, Redemption, and most recently Scandal!, as well as his acclaimed theater work and productions including Big Dada, Waiting for Godot, The Rivonia Trial, Once a Pirate, and Mooi Street Moves, among many others.

Controversy surrounding his burial
The funeral announcement of Seputla Sebogodi has been clouded in a family dispute about where he should be laid to rest. At the centre of the bitter burial disagreement is the veteran actor’s widow, Machuene Rosina Semenya.
Seputla and Machuene, his fourth known wife, quietly wed less than six months ago.
The TV and theatre star died last week of complications from diabetes. He was 63 years old.
