Mzansi icons in the tribute video
The video features late artists such as AKA, who was shot dead in 2023, as well as Killer Kau and Mpura, two of the most impactful voices during the rise of amapiano as a genre, who lost their lives in a car accident back in 2021.
Riky Rick is also featured in the video. He sadly took his own life in 2022 and was a strong and memorable voice in South African hip hop culture. Alongside him in the video is Zahara, who was an unforgettable name in South African households, known for her impactful Afro-soul sound, and who unfortunately passed away due to liver complications in 2023. Mamphintsha and Connie Chiume also appear in the video tribute.
The song is a beautiful way to reflect on some of the most impactful and influential voices and remind South Africans not to forget the faces who grew up with them and who soundtracked important, memorable moments of their lives.
