The KZN Department of Community Safety and Liaison, a participant in the Social Sector EPWP Grant calls all persons interested to participate in the Volunteers Social Crime Prevention Programme on a TWO-YEAR NON-RENEWABLE CONTRACT. The area of operation for volunteers is the ward in which interested person resides. The advert is targeting wards without volunteers.
SALARY: MONTHLY STIPEND WILL BE PROVIDED
QUALIFICATION CRITERIA
The following criteria must be met in order to qualify for participation in the programme:
- Unemployed from an impoverished background
- Youth (18-35 years)
- No Criminal Record
- Minimum school qualification: Grade 10
- Activist in crime fighting
- Reside in the ward where the vacancy exists
- Applicant must not be a participant in any other EPWP programme whether Municipality or other Provincial Department
NB: This is an EPWP voluntary programme and not a full-time employment therefore no salary will be paid but rather a stipend will be earned based on the days worked.
ABOUT VOLUNTEER SOCIAL CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAMME
The Volunteer Social Crime Prevention Programme (VSCPP) is run by the Department of Community Safety and Liaison that seeks to:
- Engage communities in socialcrime prevention
- Encourage communities to fight against crime
- Implement world-class proven social crime reduction methodologies in KwaZulu-Natal
- Replace fear of crime with reassurance amongst communities
- Promote KwaZulu-Natal as a safe place for communities, tourists and businesses
Volunteers will perform defined functions of social crime prevention, distinct from the objectives of Community Police Forums and the South African Police Service. The main objectives are to mobilise communities on a day-to-day basis by facilitation of localised social crime priorities, to achieve skills development for unemployed youth and to prioritise community activism against social crime through activities such as:
- Researching and reporting on common socialcrimes
- Public meetings
- Consultative forums
- Early warning activities
