Golden Arrows co-coach Vusimuzi Vilakazi believes the best is yet to come Pule Mmodi. He tips the attacker to work extra hard to reach his highest career level.
Mmodi started the 2023/23 DStv Premiership on a fine form. In seven matches, the attacker has scored three goals. He is a goal short than his last season’s tally, four goals.
His fine form in front of goal made it impossible for Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos to overlook him ahead of international friendlies.
The national team will play Sierra Leone and Botswana later this month as they are preparing for back-to-back games against Liberia for the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers in March 2023.
“He’s got three goals now, I think he is slowly coming back. He is still not the best Pule [Mmodi], the one that we know, but he looks sharp now, he is scoring goals for us,” said Vilakazi.
“We are still yet to see the best of Pule. For now, he is doing very well. We are happy with his performance.”
Vilakazi will be banking on Mmodi to lead from the front as they are aiming to get back to winning ways.
In their previous match against champions Mamelodi Sundowns, the 29-year-old was on target. However, Abafana bes’thende lost the tight game 2-1.
On Saturday afternoon, the KZN outfit host Swallows FC at Princess Magogo Stadium. They will be eyeing a first win against the Soweto side in eight years on 18 March 2013 where they won one nil.
Kickoff is at 3pm.
