New Sekhukhune United acquisition Sibusiso ‘Vila’ Vilakazi was touched with how the club fans received him on his debut against Cape Town Spurs in Polokwane on Friday night.

Fans chanted a classic Sotho wedding song originally titled Mosadi o mopila so, usually sung in anticipation of a bride on her wedding day.

Babina Noko changed the lyrics to suit the occasion to “Vila o mopila so” before he was brought on in the 2-0 win in the Nedbank Cup last 16 round.

“Heart-warming I must say and of course, we appreciate the fans for coming in their numbers and giving us that support. Most importantly having that support and getting a victory out of this competition,” the midfielder said after the game.

“It was really good and we really appreciate their efforts for putting their bums on the seats. For me it was heart-warming as I said and I hope our numbers will continue growing from strength to strength and we just have to keep on working hard in the games”

Vila came on in the 83rd minute for Vusimuzi Mncube and he did not complain saying he appreciates any amount of time given to him considering how long he had not played competitively.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns man was also pleased to have made his debut while they were leading.

“It was much needed, the amount of time given to me I try and make use of it. Of course, everybody has a role to play and as the time is given to me I will try to hit the ground running.

“It is that time of the season whereby we deal with results, we deal with outcomes of the games and most importantly it’s winning the games, equally the team did a very good job.

“They try to make it easy for the guys that come in and to reduce the pressure. Overall the time given I appreciate and I will continue to appreciate it even for the coming games

“I say credit to the boys having worked hard to put in those two goals on the scoreboard it really released pressure but then, of course, we were playing a well-coached team.

“Shaun Bartlet has made a good team out of his team and you can see why they are second on the log [Motsepe Foundation Championship] it’s not by fluke, it’s the hard work that they have put in. Shout out to them for giving us a good game.”
