Veteran broadcaster KG Moeketsi to take SABC to High Court over SAFM dismissal

Veteran radio presenter Kgomotso “KG” Moeketsi has announced plans to challenge her dismissal from SAfm in the High Court, alleging an unfair process and breach of her contract by the public broadcaster.

In a detailed statement released today, Wednesday, 5 August 2026, Moeketsi said her two-year contract, which began on 1 April 2026, was terminated on 15 July following an internal investigation led by SAfm’s programme manager, Ferdinand Mabalane.

According to Moeketsi, tensions escalated after a light-hearted WhatsApp exchange with a listener on 30 May who requested a song. She replied: “Why don’t you play it for yourself though?” The listener took offence. The following day, a major technical failure disrupted her broadcast for nearly two hours. After she sent a strongly worded email on 1 June raising concerns about the station’s technical problems, she was suspended.

Moeketsi claims she only discovered the suspension when she arrived to present a show on 6 June, for which payment was later withheld. She disputes the finding of breach of contract and says the process did not follow the terms of her agreement.

“I am now raising funds to pursue legal action in the high court,” she said. “This is a fight I do not undertake lightly.” Moeketsi stressed she is not seeking reinstatement but accountability and an independent assessment of whether her contract was honoured. She added that other freelancers had contacted her about similar experiences.

The SABC had not responded to the allegations at the time of reporting.
