Updated Betway Premiership after Pirates/Sundowns draw

Posted on November 2, 2025

Mamelodi Sundowns remain at the top of the Betway Premiership following their 1-1 draw with rivals Orlando Pirates at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday afternoon.

The draw has allowed Sundowns to increase their lead over second-place Sekhukhune United by two points, although Sekhukhune has a game in hand.

On the other hand, the Buccaneers were hindered by the draw and now trail the Brazilians by three points, having played two fewer matches.

Which team has the advantage in the Betway Premiership?

While Masandawana is currently leading the table, there are three teams that could potentially overtake them.

Sekhukhune United is just one win away from claiming the top spot, while Kaizer Chiefs could equal Sundowns’ points total if they win their game in hand.

Many fans believe that Orlando Pirates could ultimately rise to the top if they win their two matches in hand. The Buccaneers have been undefeated in the league for over two months and are currently perceived as the best team in the league.

They last won the Betway Premiership 13 years ago, and this might be their best chance to reclaim the title. In the last two seasons, they challenged Sundowns but finished over 10 points behind the Brazilians.

Sekhukhune and Chiefs are considered dark horses, but their inconsistency in recent league matches makes it difficult to label them as true title contenders. Additionally, AmaZulu could also be in the fight for the top spot.

As for relegation in the Betway Premiership, Chippa United appears likely to drop after just one victory in 11 league matches.

The change of coaches has not brought the desired results for the Chilli Boys this season, and this instability may lead them to the Motsepe Championship Foundation. Stellenbosch, Magesi, and Siwelele are also at risk and need to start securing wins to ensure their safety in the league.

Which team will win the league?
