Update On Pirates Move For Marou

Orlando Pirates move for Cameroon international forward Souaibou Marou from Coton Sport is hanging in the balance, as things stand.

Marou’s proposed deal to Pirates was ‘confirmed’ by several publications in his home country a week before the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

It appears the leaking of information to the press in Cameroon and South African media has not gone down well with the Pirates hierarchy, leaving the move in jeopardy.

As reported in Edition 86 of iDiski Times the Sea Robbers are still looking to free up a foreign quota space before committing to the deal.

Sources close to Coton Sport have also indicated that offers from France and Germany have been received although they fall short of the bid the Buccaneers originally tabled.

Bienvenu Eva Nga and Terrence Dzvukamanja were both informed they could leave the club in the January window, but with options limited at present – they could be forced to delay the deal until the end of the season, call it off, or park the new signing on loan.

The agent who is negotiating the deal with Pirates, Mike Makaab spoke on the matter this week on Gagasi FM where he suggested the deal is not completely dead.

“We’re busy working on that a moment and still quite a way off, but we’re working on it and as I’ve said to you so many times in football, nothing is cast in stone, nothing can be guaranteed until the player is registered to the football club,” Makaab said.

Makaab went on to add that they are still in talks with both Pirates and Coton Sport but the deal is not close to being finalised as previously reported.

“We’re hoping that we can revitalise the interest in the player by Orlando Pirates. But as I said, we’re a long way off at the moment.”
