In Pictures, Umkhokha has been renewed for its second season; Showmax to stream the series.
Umkhokha is one of Mzansi’s favourite drama series because of its uniqueness. When the drama series premiered, people were a bit sceptical about how it would be. However, the first episode of the show got raving reviews from people, and so did every episode. After the first season ended, viewers were left on a cliffhanger, wondering when the second season would be aired.
In February, it was heard through the grapevine that the series would be turned into a Telenovela. The news, which Phil Mpela, an entertainment news reporter, delivered, was met with adverse reactions. Many television channels have cancelled telenovelas because people prefer reality television and short drama series.
However, the official UmkhokhaInstagram shared that the popular drama series is coming back to our screens again. However, their press statement states that the series will not be aired on Mzansi Magic anymore. The faith-based drama series will start streaming on Monday the 11th of April on Showmax. The team is excited about joining the streaming series, where it will join the team of other global storytellers.
Umkhokha is a drama series about two families fighting for leadership of a church after the founder dies. Mamzobe, the wife of the second in command, feels her husband should lead. However, when Phakhatwayo died, he named his eldest son the successor even though he was in jail. Mamzobe will be conniving and killing people for the whole first season to get the leadership. In the last episode, she is finally exposed, but after the police take her away, the Phakhatwayos realize that she had planted umkhokha in their yard, and they can not reverse it since she moved her daughter’s grave.
