Tyla reveals women whose careers she admired

South African pop sensation Tyla recently reflected on her early inspirations during an exclusive GLAMOUR Girlhood Q&A, where she opened up about her journey, beauty moments, and the women who helped shape her dreams.

When asked about the first women in music whose careers she admired, the Water hitmaker didn’t hesitate to mention two of Mzansi’s greatest icons, Brenda Fassie and Lebo Mathosa.

“I really admired Brenda Fassie and Lebo Mathosa,” Tyla shared. “They were like our pop stars.”

Looking back on her childhood, Tyla spoke fondly of growing up surrounded by their music.

“Their music was just so infectious, it was everywhere. And they were women — it’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” she added.

Both Brenda and Lebo remain unforgettable figures in South African music history.

From their chart-topping hits to their captivating stage performances, their influence continues to inspire new generations of artists like Tyla, who are carrying the torch of African pop to the global stage.
