Tyla bags international nods

South African music star Tyla has scored two major nominations at the upcoming 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, further cementing her rising global influence.

The breakout star is nominated in the “Best Choreography” and “Best Afrobeats” categories for her hit single Push 2 Start, a track that’s dominated airwaves, social platforms, and dancefloors across the globe.

This recognition places Tyla among music royalty, joining the ranks of top international artists like Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, and Doja Cat, who are all contenders at this year’s star-studded ceremony.

Lady Gaga leads the list with the most nominations overall, setting the stage for what promises to be a high-energy celebration of music’s biggest names.

Tyla’s choreography nod highlights her signature blend of bold visuals and slick, magnetic movement, a trademark of her music videos.

Meanwhile, her “Best Afrobeats” nomination underscores her role in pushing the genre further into the global mainstream, with Push 2 Start showcasing her distinctive fusion of Afrobeats rhythms and polished pop vocals.

The music video for the single, praised for its creative direction and vibrant aesthetic, has gone viral across platforms, inspiring countless dance challenges and fan tributes.

As one fan wrote on X: “This is such a proud moment for Africa. Tyla is doing it for all of us.”

The 2025 VMAs will take place on September 7 at New York City’s USB Arena and will be broadcast live on CBS and MTV, with streaming available via Paramount+.

As anticipation builds, fans are rallying to vote, with many predicting at least one win for Tyla.
