South African stars Tyla and Makhadzi stole the spotlight at the 2024 Basadi in Music Awards on Sunday, each taking home two awards.
Tyla, whose real name is Laura Seethal, won big thanks to her hit single “Water.”
The song earned her the awards for Highest Airplay and Song of the Year at the event.
While Tyla didn’t personally announce her wins, her fan page on Twitter celebrated the moment, tweeting, “Congratulations to @Tyllaaaaaaa, who has won 2 Basadi in Music Awards.” Tyla simply replied, “Thank you.”
Limpopo artist Makhadzi also had a successful night, winning the awards for Dance Artist of the Year and International Achievement of the Year.
Makhadzi said she was grateful on social media, sharing both funny and heartfelt moments from her award acceptance.
She even bowed down on stage in thanks.
“Congratulations Khadzinators, won two awards @basadiinmusicawards_sa, thank you so much for your love. God added more blessings. But my English speech always disappoints me, what’s this now,” she posted.
