On Friday, March 11, a two-year-old child was declared dead following a fatal drowning at a residence in Midrand’s President Park.
According to ER24, paramedics arrived at 12:20 and found the Provincial Services already on the scene. “A two-year-old child was found lying near the poolside. Unfortunately, nothing could be done, and the child was declared dead by the Provincial paramedic.”
It is believed that the child went missing for a short period of time before being discovered and dragged from the pool by other residents on the property. “The exact details surrounding this incident are unknown, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations,” ER24 said.
This week, Major General Jan Scheepers, the acting provincial police commissioner in Limpopo, appealed to parents, guardians, and community members to protect children during the current rainy season.
The most recent drowning occurred on March 6 in Praktiseer, near Burgersfort. “The incident was only reported yesterday on Monday, 07 March 2022. The Police Divers managed to retrieve the child’s body from the depth of 5 meters,” Mojapelo said.
Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo of the South African Police Service (SAPS) said a 12-year-old boy, Thabang Mogofe, drowned in a “huge hole” dug by a road construction company.
