Two travellers died in separate incidents on Saturday at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo and Durban’s King Shaka International airports.
According to Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), the first incident happened when a passenger fell from the fifth floor to the ground at OR Tambo International Airport.
Paramedics declared the person dead at the scene.
In the second incident, a traveller collapsed at the domestic arrival terminal at King Shaka International Airport in Durban and died shortly after.
ACSA spokesperson Ernest Mulibana confirmed that the police have taken over both cases, with an inquest docket opened for further investigations.
“As ACSA, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of both travellers during this difficult time,” Mulibana said.
The cause of death in both incidents remains unknown.
