TWO POLICE OFFICERS APPEARS IN COURT FOR CORRUPTION CHARGES

Two police officers who are facing corruption charges are expected to appear at Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) on Friday morning.

This comes after the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit members arrested two police officers aged 41 and 42 years for corruption in Pietermaritzburg on Thursday.

According to police reports, a case of common assault was registered at Alexandra Road Police Station on Saturday, and it is alleged that on Tuesday, 3 March 2026 two police officers, accompanied by the complainant in the assault common case went to the workplace of the suspect in the matter.

The suspect was placed under arrest, and the arresting officers are alleged to have requested R1000 bail money from the suspect.

The suspect did not have cash on him, however arrangements were made with employer to pay the requested amount, with an agreement that the employer will deduct the money from his salary.

When the suspect was released by the court he enquired about his bail money, and he was directed to go to the police station where a case of corruption was subsequently registered.

On Friday, 22 May 2026, one of the police officers proceeded to the complainant’s workplace to pay back the R1000 and asked him to withdraw the corruption case against him and his colleague.

The complainant refused to take the money from the police officer.

The Provincial Anti-Corruption members arrested the two officers and charged them with corruption.
