Two Lotto Winners Hit Multi-Million Rands

South Africa had reason to celebrate after not one but two players hit the jackpot in the Lotto over the weekend. In Draw 2578 on Saturday, 20 September 2025, two tickets landed massive payouts, turning ordinary bets into life-changing fortunes.

App vs Store: Different Routes to Riches

The first win came from a player using the ABSA banking app. For just R50 on a Quick Pick, they matched the six main Lotto numbers: 4, 5, 14, 21, 34, and 52. That single digital entry brought in over R18 million.

The second winner is from Westville, KwaZulu-Natal. Playing a manually chosen ticket worth R30, they scooped the Lotto Plus 2 jackpot of more than R8.5 million.

Ithuba Urges Winners to Claim

Ithuba, the national lottery operator, has congratulated both players and encouraged them to claim their winnings. App players are usually notified automatically, but those with physical tickets must check them carefully. For the Westville ticket holder, it is vital to come forward soon to secure the prize.

Why These Wins Matter

In a country where many people face financial struggles, stories like this carry more weight than just headlines. They represent possibility, hope, and the idea that anyone can get lucky, whether through a smartphone app or a shop counter ticket.

Lotto wins often spark conversations at taxi ranks, in queues at spaza shops, and around dinner tables. The question is always the same: “What would you do with the money?” It is a moment where people dream together, even if only for a while.

The Bigger Picture

The weekend’s double jackpot win also shows how the game itself has modernised. South Africans are increasingly playing online or through banking apps, yet traditional paper tickets still hold their magic. Both winners prove that fortune does not favour one method over another.

As Ithuba reminds us, the Lotto is not just about the millions. A portion of the funds also supports charitable projects and community development across the country. These wins, therefore, create ripples that go further than the individuals who struck gold.

Two players. Two very different tickets. Both are now instant multi-millionaires. One tapped on a phone, the other marked a slip of paper, and together they turned this weekend’s draw into a story that captured national attention.

It is a reminder that dreams can be sparked in unexpected ways, and sometimes, lightning really does strike twice.
