  • Two people were killed in a three-vehicle collision on the M1 Northbound near the Glenhove Road off-ramp in Johannesburg.
  • The crash forced the complete closure of all northbound lanes as emergency services attend to the scene and conduct investigations.
  • Motorists have been urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes due to heavy traffic delays.

Two people have been killed in a severe multi-vehicle accident on the M1 Northbound before the Glenhove Road off-ramp in Houghton Estate.

The fatalities occurred after three motor vehicles collided, resulting in the complete closure of the M1 Northbound to traffic.

Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla said all northbound lanes have been blocked to allow emergency services to operate and to facilitate accident investigations.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the M1 North between 11th Avenue and Glenhove Road and to expect heavy delays in the surrounding Houghton and Melrose areas. Alternative routes include Oxford Road, Louis Botha Avenue and Jan Smuts Avenue,” Fihla said.

The roadway is expected to remain closed for some time while the scene is cleared and processed.
