  • Two armed suspects were shot dead during a violent robbery at a retail complex in Ironside, Vaal, on Wednesday.
  • A victim inside the store returned fire during the raid, injuring one person and killing two of the six-man gang.
  • Gauteng Police have launched a manhunt for the four remaining suspects who fled the scene in two getaway vehicles.

A daring midday robbery at an Ironside shopping complex turned fatal this week when a confrontation between gunmen and a victim sparked a deadly shoot-out.

A gang of six armed men arrived at the centre in three separate vehicles before storming a store.

During the heist, an exchange of gunfire occurred between the suspects and a person inside the premises. Two of the robbers were fatally wounded, while one victim sustained a gunshot wound and was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.

The current condition of the injured victim has not been disclosed.

The four surviving members of the gang managed to escape the scene in two of their vehicles. It remains unclear whether the group successfully made off with any cash or merchandise before the situation escalated.

Gauteng Police spokesperson Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed that forensic teams are currently scouring the scene for evidence.

Detectives are also reviewing CCTV footage from the complex and surrounding roads to track the movements of the fugitives.

Authorities have appealed to the public for any information regarding the suspects or the vehicles involved.

Reports can be made anonymously via the MySAPS app or by contacting the Crime Stop hotline.
