- A multi-agency task force apprehended two suspects in Langlaagte following a high-stakes intelligence operation.
- Police seized signal jammers, “keyless start” electronic devices, and false plates from a hijacked Suzuki Ciaz.
- The suspects are currently linked to at least six separate vehicle thefts across the Gauteng province.
A sophisticated multi-disciplinary operation, involving SAPS National Counter Intelligence, the Gauteng TRT, and private security partners, has successfully dismantled a vehicle theft ring.
The breakthrough came after intelligence identified a gang using a Suzuki Ciaz to target various models across the province, equipped with advanced signal-jamming technology.
The tactical team intercepted the suspect vehicle, which was fitted with fraudulent registration plates, on Main Reef Road in Johannesburg.
Upon searching the car, officers discovered a suite of criminal tools, including electronic devices capable of bypassing keyless ignitions and various computer box components used to override vehicle security systems.
Preliminary investigations suggest the pair are responsible for at least six recent motor vehicle thefts.
Both suspects remain in custody as the Provincial Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit continues to probe their links to wider criminal networks.
