A devastating road accident involving a minibus taxi and two trucks has claimed the lives of twelve people, including a 7-year-old girl, in Limpopo.

The fatal collision occurred on Sunday along the R81 at Ga-Sekgopo in the Capricorn District, as passengers were travelling from a church service in Solomondale to Magoro Village outside Giyani.

This accident comes hours after five people died in a car accident in the province.

Transport Minister Barbara Creecy expressed her condolences to the bereaved families, confirming that one male driver, ten female passengers, and one child aged between 7 and 10 died in the crash.

“We urge motorists to exercise heightened vigilance and take responsibility for their safety and that of others on the road,” Creecy said.

SANTACO Limpopo also extended its condolences, pledging continued support to the affected families and a review of safety measures to help prevent future tragedies.

Limpopo Premier Popi Ramathuba described the incident as a heartbreaking loss for the province.

“This tragedy is deeply touching, especially when we think of the mothers and families affected. The provincial government stands in solidarity with the bereaved and will provide the necessary support,” she said.

Law enforcement authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident.
