  • The Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD) demolished 54 illegal structures opposite Mams Mall in Mamelodi to address critical public safety hazards.
  • The structures were largely obstructing the middle of the road, necessitating removal to clear traffic and reduce the risk of accidents.
  • Authorities emphasised that strict compliance with city by-laws is mandatory, warning residents of property removal and legal action for non-adherence.

The Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD) led a major by-laws enforcement operation on Wednesday, 26 November 2025, resulting in the demolition of 54 illegal structures opposite Mams Mall in Mamelodi.

The joint operation, overseen by Deputy Commissioner Nomsa Nhlapho and Brigadier W Mohlala, aimed to eliminate public safety hazards and clear severe road obstructions.

Many of the demolished structures had been erected directly in the middle of the road, contributing to traffic congestion and accidents.

Authorities stressed that compliance with City of Tshwane by-laws is mandatory, warning that any failure to adhere to regulations will lead to the removal of property and other legal action.

The operation successfully cleared the roads and improved pedestrian safety.
