Tshabalala – We’ve Got Bigger Fish To Fry

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies head coach Jerry Tshabalala says the important phase of the CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA qualifiers only starts now.

Tshabalala’s charges topped Group B with nine points and will meet defending champions Green Buffaloes in a repeat of last year’s final for a place in this year’s final at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Thursday.

The other semi-final is between Botswana’s Double Action Ladies and Costa Do Sol of Mozambique with only one team going to represent COSAFA, at the continental finals in Ivory Coast in November.

The coach wants more goals despite the fact that the Hollywoodbets Super League champions have scored 16 times in three matches this year and they are the only team yet to concede.

“For us we’ve been working hard at training and I always say we’ve been focusing more on attacking-play lately because we were not scoring goals as much as we would love to score,” said Tshabalala.

“And I’m excited for the fact that it’s not just the strikers who are scoring, everyone from the team scored. When you look on the score-sheet we already got two defenders who scored goals. So it’s an exciting thing for us as a technical team”

“Football is a team sport, we can’t always rely on an individual. So since football is a team sport everyone must come to the party and contribute positively towards the betterment of the team.”

Tshabalala also stated that the real tournament is only starting now, with a semi-final against last year’s champions proving to be a tough upcoming hurdle.

“Like I said for us as a technical team we are very excited and we are happy about it but we know that the tournament is only starting now,” he added.

“We are excited that we are out of the group stages, the bigger fish to fry is to win COSAFA. So we just got to keep on grinding for results.”

Meanwhile, Costa Do Sol will face unbeaten Double Action Ladies in the other semi-final.
