Jerry Tshabalala has confirmed that Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have signed Miche Minnies from Vasco Da Gama ahead of the new Hollywoodbets Super League season.
The 20-year-old was part of the Vasco side that won the 2021 Sasol League national championship in Durban earlier this year.
Minnies, was named the Player of the Tournament and top goal scorer at the playoff, signed a four-year deal with Sundowns.
She is one of the three new names confirmed by head coach Tshabalala, including Salome Kekana and Tiisetso Makhubela, who signed two-year contracts respectively.
Tshabalala told iDiski Times that he liked the versatility of the former South African junior international striker and wants her to learn from the attacking experience in the Sundowns side.
“We know that Minnies is a top striker and I’m not only preparing the team for the season but we are looking at the future,” said Tshabalala.
“If you are going to have Miche Minnies learning, it has to be from top strikers like Rhoda Mulaudzi, your Andisiwe Mgcoyi for that experience.
“But what really attracted me to Minnies is the fact that she can also play as a right wing, and the fact that she’s capable of taking players on. She’s not scared so getting a player like her who can play as a striker and right wing, it gives me joy as a coach.”
The defending champions have been hard at work gearing up for the new campaign playing in friendlies and pre-season tournaments.
The coach is pleased to be going into the new term with a full complement of goalkeepers that include Asa Rabalao, Andile Dlamini and Sedilame Boseja.
Dlamini and Boseja spent the better half of their treble winning season recovering from illness and injury, though the former recovered in time to be part of the CAF Women’s Champions League winning team.
‘Kappa’ as the coach is affectionately is excited to watch the competition in the goalkeeping department.
“We are very excited Sedilame is ready to play this season, her rehab has gone marvellously,” added Tshabalala.
“I’m really excited to see that colourful competition they going to be having. I like the fact that it is a healthy competition.
“When you have got a Botswana international, you got a Banyana international what more can you ask for. The competition is going to help us in terms of rotating the keepers because we know we got experience in that department.”
