Newly appointed Sekhukhune United coach Brandon Truter says his immediate task is to ensure that the club stops leaking goals at the back.

As previously revealed by this publication on Thursday, Truter was appointed on Friday on the deal until 2025.

He replaces Kaitano Tembo, who was sacked earlier this month, leaving the club second from bottom with 11 points after 12 matches, levelled with bottom side Maritzburg United, who though have played one more game.

The former AmaZulu coach will be assisted by MacDonald Makhubedu. Thabo Senong, who was Tembo’s other assistant coach, has been appointed as the Head of Development.

Despite signing Victor Letsoalo from Royal AM who scored 15 league goals last season, they have been goal shy having netted just 10 and conceded 13.

Truter has acknowledged he has a lot of work to do to improve the team, and insisted he will use a different playing philosophy then Tembo.

“The team has not been doing too well,” said Truter upon his appointment by the club.

“Of course we need to bring some stability now. We have to stop giving points away. I see Sekhukhune taking a lead and then dropping and not even getting a point from the games, so we need to create stability.

“Of course I’m not in the same mindset as my predecessor, no disrespect to him, he’s a close friend and I’m absolutely looking forward to changing things.

“We definitely don’t think alike, and definitely I’m coming with a different mindset, playing style. Sekhukhune has not been the worst when it comes to conceding goals.”

Truter, interestingly, was supposed to have joined Sekhukhune in the latter part of last season before taking the Usuthu role on the caretaker basis in March.

However, when AmaZulu came knocking for his signature, he jumped at the opportunity, leaving Sekhukhune opting with Owen da Gama.

However, he eventually ended up at Sabina Noko and sent a message to his new club’s fans/

“I’ll appeal to the supporters to stay behind the team,” added Truter.

“They are our 12th player and their voices in the stands count a lot. It’s motivational for the players and I have seen it when I came up against the club on how vocal they can be. They have a tremendous voice from outside in terms of lifting the players up.”

Truter’s first game in charge of Sekhukhune, ironically, will be against AmaZulu on 31 December after the FIFA World Cup break.
