Truter says AmaZulu can challenge for every trophy

AmaZulu coach Brandon Truter has said his squad was determined to fight for every trophy up for grabs this season.

He said this in a post-match interview after AmaZulu beat Cape Town City 2-1 in the MTN8 quarterfinal match played on Saturday.

“It is almost difficult coming to Cape Town and playing Cape Town City. We knew what was expected.

“We knew City would move the ball and would dominate possession. What was clear even after that result was that we have to win.

“The will to try and win tonight was awesome. We manage to get the first goal and then conceded at a crucial moment.

“We started all over again. I am thankful for the boys. They stuck to the plan. They knew what we needed to do tonight to get a result,” he said.

Truter added that he was okay with City keeping the ball as long as his charges progressed to the competition’s semis.

He admitted that matching DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns in competing for every trophy was a near impossible task.

“The individual objective, the club’s objective is normal top-four and CAF spot and fight for every available trophy.

“The feeling from myself and the rest of the squad is that we can,

perhaps, fight for every trophy. We will take each game at a time,” he said.

In another MTN8 game, Orlando Pirates dispatched Royal AM to book a place in the semi-final. Vincent Pule was among the scorers.

Mamelodi Sundowns clash with SuperSport in the other MTN8 quarterfinal at the Tuks Stadium, while Kaizer Chiefs takes on Stellenbosch at the Danie Craven Stadium.

Newly appointed Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane knows the Soweto giants have not won a trophy in over seven years and would be eager to land silverware in their cabinet at Naturena.
