Truter Happy To Win At Home Away From Home

Sekhukhune United head coach Brandon Truter cut a happy figure after collecting his second win at Athlone Stadium – his home away from home – this season.

Babina Noko claimed their second win of the season after beating Cape Town City by 1-0 courtesy of an early goal by Nigerian forward Chibuike Ohizu.

Truter’s side have now collected six points in 2023/24, all at Athlone Stadium and are yet to concede in Cape Town after beating Cape Town Spurs by 2-0 two weeks ago.

Brakkies, who hails from Cape Town, naturally cut a happy figure, saying it’s nice to collect wins at his old hunting ground.

“Yeah, I’m from Cape Town so I hate losing in Cape Town. So yeah, Athlone Stadium is our home, especially football in Cape Town, it’s the home of football. So it’s nice picking up three points here,” Truer told the media.

“But at the same time it wasn’t easy, City is a very good team [and] we’ve done our homework in terms of the ability, in terms of the technical structure. We knew that they wanted to find pockets, especially with their front three between the lines.

“And we had to protect that spaces, and of course find all the wide and then turn it over and get our counter.

“I think it’s was a very good first half from us ,much in terms of the technical discipline and the plan came together nicely. With the back-three we knew they’re gonna have space on the side and with our speed and with our ability on the ball, we knew that we will create chances.

“We managed to take one. I think it could have been two or three, but yeah, we knew City will dominate position, we surrender that and it was an effort.

“Tonight was a really real effort, at times they could have hurt us but played a bit into our hands in the second half, in terms of throwing in the highball [and] Rikhotso had to deal with it and Cardoso as well.

“But yeah, we weren’t as fluid and ruthless in the second half on coming out on counters, legs went a bit in terms of the debutants, Mabotja good shift from him, Mkhize good shift. All in all good results.”
