Truter Eyes Advantage Over Chiefs In MTN8

AmaZulu coach Brandon Truter wants to take an advantage back home when they visit Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium in the first leg of the MTN8 semi final on Sunday (15:30).

Truter has tasked his team to do and finish the job off in the second leg semi final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban later next month, but wants to score an all-important away goal this week.

Earlier in the campaign, AmaZulu were holding Chiefs to a goalless draw, however, Usuthu are heading to this weekend’s game on the back of not so good results. They have not won in the three matches, including that Chiefs draw.

The club’s last victory was against Cape Town City in the MTN8 quarter finals late in August, which has put Truter under scrutiny and there some talks that failure to beat Chiefs (over the two legs), could result in heads rolling.

Truter admitted that his side’s defence is not the best right now, but he wants to hurts Chiefs upfront.

“We want to come away with an advantage in the first leg and I’m saying an advantage with an away goal,” said Truter on his approach for the first leg on Thursday.

“But we are conceding goals cheaply at the moment and a clean sheet will be nice. Not shutting the backdoor or anything like that, but come here with an advantage and all to play for at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

“With our fans behind us, I know we can count on them and the AmaZulu faithful are loud, they are behind us, they support us. And you know it will give extra motivation to the guys.”

Strangely, although these clubs have met in finals of cup competitions before, this will be the first time they are meeting in the MTN8 since telecommunication provider took over as the sponsor ahead of the 2008/09 season, with Chiefs being the first side to etch their name in this competition then.

The last time they met in this competition at the semi-final stage was in 1994, when Chiefs won 2-1 when the competition was still known as the BP top eight, in which the semi-final only had one leg.

While Usuthu are seeking their first triumph in the PSL era, Chiefs are looking for their first too since 2014 when they beat Orlando Pirates 1-0 in the final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
