Truter Elated To Have Captured Vila

Sekhukhune United coach Brandon Truter is excited to have captured the services of Sibusiso Vilakazi, saying the quality of the former PSL footballer of the season is still evident.

As previously revealed by iDiski Times, Vila was signed by Babina Noko until the end of the season with a one-year option to renew.

That one-year option to be renewed for next season will depend on what Vilakazi does in the next two months left to impress coach Truter and the management as he’s reaching the twilight of his career.

Vila was snapped up after he left TS Galaxy in what was an acrimonious exit recently between both parties after he fell out of favour with coach Sead Ramovic, who claimed that he was not working hard enough, adding that it was going to be an insult to other players who are putting better efforts not to be selected but instead Vila.

That created a fury between Ramovic and Vila’s former coach, Pitso Mosimane, who signed the former Bafana Bafana attacker from Bidvest Wits when he was the Mamelodi Sundowns coach ahead of the 2016/17 season.

“Signed, sealed and hopefully he can deliver for us,” said Truter after his side lost 2-0 to Royal AM at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday night.

“He has been very good in training, but transferring that from training to the game is key. We have trained extensively without scoring, box entries and finishing.

“We had nothing to show for it against Royal AM, but hopefully, we will get it right. I welcome him.”

Vilakazi spent six seasons with Sundowns where he won five league titles, one MTN8, two Nedbank Cups and one TKO, before leaving at the end of last season to join Galaxy.

Coach Truter is hoping Vila can help him unlock low-block teams in their chase for the top-eight spot come the end of the season.

“With Vila, the quality is evident,” said Truter, who when he arrived, Sekhukhune were 15th in the standing and now are 11th with 27 points after 22 matches.

“I think he brings composure into the last third – some decision-making and insight into the game.

“He has won trophies, has won leagues and campaigned in the CAF Champions League, played for Bafana – it will be a welcomed addition to the attack.”

Vila is likely to feature when Sekhukhune hosts Cape Town Spurs in the Nedbank Cup last 16 at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday (19:30).

Vila also won the Ke Yona Cup in the 2009/10 season with Wits.
