Reality TV star and Providence, R.I., municipal judge Frank Caprio has died at the age of 88 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Known for his compassionate and humorous approach to justice, Caprio gained international fame with his television show Caught in Providence, which ran from 2018 to 2020 and earned multiple Daytime Emmy Award nominations.

Clips of his courtroom proceedings went viral on social media platforms like TikTok, where he was dubbed the “Nicest Judge in the World.” This online popularity led to him amassing millions of followers.

A statement posted to his Instagram account announced his death, saying he passed away “peacefully” after a “long and courageous battle.”

The tribute highlighted his legacy of “compassion, humility, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people,” describing him as a devoted family man whose “warmth, humor, and kindness left an indelible mark.”

The statement concluded by encouraging others to “strive to bring a little more compassion into the world — just as he did every day.”
