Orlando Pirates have strengthened for the future after reportedly signing teenage sensation Edmilson Chaney from Hope FC. The Buccaneers have also sent Lonwabo Magugwana to The Immortals as part of their relationship with the Motsepe Foundation Championship club.
EDMILSON CHANEY JOINS ORLANDO PIRATES
According to iDiski Times journalist Sinethemba Makonco, Orlando Pirates completed a deal for the exciting winger before immediately loaning him back to Hope FC for the season.
Chaney developed through the Cape Town Spurs academy before joining Hope FC for their debut 2025/26 campaign.
Nicknamed “Millies”, the right-footed attacker from Bishop Lavis made an instant impact. He scored on his competitive debut in October 2025 and quickly established himself as one of the country’s brightest young wingers.
The 19-year-old enjoyed a superb season in the SAFA ABC Motsepe League. He helped Hope FC win the Western Cape title and played a key role in the club’s promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Chaney scored crucial goals against FC Ravens and NC Professionals during the national playoffs in Mthatha. His pace, finishing and creativity attracted interest from several Betway Premiership clubs.
BUCCANEERS WIN TRANSFER RACE
Kaizer Chiefs, AmaZulu and TS Galaxy were all reportedly interested in signing the winger. However, Orlando Pirates won the race for his signature.
Chaney’s impressive displays also earned him a preliminary call-up to the South Africa Under-20 squad ahead of the 2026 COSAFA Men’s Under-20 Championship.
