The Bafana Bafana defender was already attracting reported interest from clubs in England, Spain, Germany, France and Italy, with his performances in Scotland being closely monitored.

Now, the 22-year-old has added a major individual honour to his impressive start in Glasgow after being named the Scottish Premiership Player of the Month for September.

EUROPE-WATCHED BAFANA BAFANA STAR WINS BIG AT RANGERS

Makhanya’s award comes after a month in which Rangers enjoyed an outstanding run of form. He won all five of their fixtures in September, including four Scottish Premiership matches.

The club confirmed that Makhanya had been named Scottish Premiership Player of the Month. His manager Derek McInnes was also recognised as Manager of the Month.

“I want to keep working hard, keep improving and help the team get the results we want,” Makhanya told Rangers’ media announced.

The recognition adds further weight to the growing interest in Makhanya. Reports claim that clubs from Europe’s top five leagues are monitoring the South African defender.

According to TEAMTalk, as reported by SoccerBeat, clubs in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 have been keeping tabs on his progress. Rangers are potentially facing enquiries next summer if his form continues.

That interest came after Makhanya made an immediate impact following his July move from Philadelphia Union to Rangers.

At the time of the previous report, he had started all six of his league appearances. He played 540 minutes and helping Rangers keep four clean sheets.

The defender had also completed 323 passes at an 85.2% accuracy rate, while recording a 7.46 match rating. His defensive numbers were equally impressive. It was 20 clearances, four blocks and five interceptions from his first five matches, before his total number of clearances increased to 24.

Makhanya’s September award therefore arrives at an important time. The defender is being watched by clubs across Europe. His latest individual recognition could only strengthen the growing belief that Rangers have a highly-rated Bafana Bafana defender on their hands.
