  • Four people were killed in a head-on collision between a sedan and a light delivery vehicle in Mpumalanga on Sunday morning.
  • Among the victims were three sedan occupants and a pedestrian, while two others were seriously injured.
  • MEC Jackie Macie urged motorists to follow road rules and said reckless driving may have contributed to the crash.

A horrific car accident claimed the lives of four people in Mpumalanga on Sunday morning after a sedan and a light delivery vehicle were involved in a head-on collision.

Three of the deceased, two males and one female, including the driver, were occupants of the sedan. The fourth victim, a female pedestrian, was found near the wreckage of the light delivery vehicle. All four victims died at the scene.

The male driver of the light delivery vehicle and a child passenger sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital in eMkhondo for medical treatment.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, said that an investigation into the cause of the crash is underway; however, reckless driving cannot be ruled out at this stage.

“Motorists must always be alert on the road. Every driver must obey the rules, prioritize their own safety and that of other road users to avoid needless loss of life and life-changing injuries,” Macie said.

He also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
