Traffic Cop Arrested In Connection With Girlfriend’s Murder Faces Disciplinary Hearing

An internal disciplinary hearing and possible suspension from work await a Limpopo traffic officer detained in connection with his girlfriend’s murder.

Kabelo Peter Duba, 34, was arrested last Thursday, one week after his girlfriend’s body was found with a gunshot wound to her upper body under a bridge in Chuenespoort, Lebowakgomo. He appeared in court briefly and was denied bail. The matter is set to be heard again on September 4.

Kedidimetse Moshe, a student at Tshwane University of Technology’s (TUT) Polokwane campus, was confirmed as the victim.

Florence Radzilani, Limpopo’s MEC for transport and community safety, expressed shock and sadness over the incident, which occurred during Women’s Month.

She said Duba worked in the weighbridge unit for the department’s Polokwane office.

Internal disciplinary processes are being pursued by the department, which may include suspension from work.

“The MEC has urged all men in society to seek psychological help when they come across difficult life situations rather than resorting to violence,” the department said.

TUT spokesperson Phaphama Tshisikhawe said the institution was saddened by the death of “one of our own”.

She stated that a statement would be published regarding Moshe’s death and described the student as very popular and well-liked on her campus.

Moshe’s friends and relatives have paid respect to the young woman, who was apparently buried on Sunday, on social media.
